Philanthropic Mission

Outside the Wake philanthropy will be a one-of-a-kind outreach program that will
introduce less fortunate children to the world of boating. With the help of our
members, our goal is to host quarterly outings where children from a partnering
organization can spend a day out on the James River. We hope to enhance the
lives of children by showing them the exciting world of water sports and allowing
them to see the Richmond skyline from a whole new angle. Children will also
participate in a water safety course where they will learn the importance of wearing
a life jacket, what to do when in distress, and the different names for parts of a boat.
We feel that our boating community has the unique potential to bring boating to
children who otherwise wouldn't get the experience.

The term 'outside the wake' comes from waterskiing lingo where the water is
smoother inside the wake (due to the boat's thrash) but outside the wake you face
the brunt of the chops on your own. Our aim is to show children their own potential
by encouraging their curiosity for boating and promoting an active lifestyle in our
community.
